Sur-Ron Ultra Bee HP X Review: 24.5kW and 68mph Tested

Short answer: the Ultra Bee HP X is the fastest, most capable bike Sur-Ron builds, with 24.5 kW peak power, 520 Nm at the wheel and a 68 mph top speed. Our honest Sur-Ron Ultra Bee HP X review: it is a proper full-size electric dirt bike, and it is far more machine than a first-time rider needs.

We run a Sur-Ron dealership, so we build these, ride these and hand them over every week. This is what the 2026 Ultra Bee HP X is actually like once the hype wears off. It is off-road only, not type-approved for UK public roads in stock form, so it belongs on private land, at a track or on a permitted trail.

What is new on the 2026 Ultra Bee HP X?

The HP X badge is not a sticker pack. Sur-Ron changed the parts that matter.

  • More power. 24.5 kW in Turbo and 21.5 kW in Sport, from a PMSM hairpin mid-drive motor with an MTPA/MTPV FOC controller.
  • More torque. 520 Nm at the wheel, which is what you feel first, long before you feel the top speed.
  • A bigger battery. 74V 60Ah, removable, charging 20 to 80% in about 2.5 hours on the 1000W charger.
  • Better drive. A carbon-fibre reinforced primary belt feeding a secondary chain, quieter and less fiddly than a chain-only setup.
  • More electronics. SWC wheelie assist, Auto Hold, ASR, tilt protection, plus 5-level coasting and braking regen.

Colours are Desert Brown and Carbon Black. Our 2026 Sur-Ron range update covers all three bikes side by side.

Sur-Ron Ultra Bee HP X review: how does 24.5kW actually feel?

Quick enough that we tell everyone to start in Daily mode. Sur-Ron quotes 0 to 31 mph in 1.84 seconds and 0 to 50 mph in 3.7 seconds, and those numbers match what we see. No clutch, no gear change, no wait. The torque arrives the instant you move your wrist and the bike simply goes.

Six riding modes give you somewhere to hide while you learn: Eco, Daily, Sport, Crawl, Reverse and Turbo. Crawl is genuinely useful on slow technical climbs. Reverse saves your back when you park badly on a slope. Turbo is the one you save for open ground, because in tight woods the full 24.5 kW is more liability than benefit.

Is a 68mph top speed usable off-road?

Honestly, not often. 68 mph (110 km/h) is real and the bike holds it on a long straight, but very few UK riders have the space. On a normal field or fire road you sit between 20 and 45 mph. The top end buys headroom, so the bike never strains at 40 mph.

Speed is also what gets people into trouble legally. Read where you can legally ride a Sur-Ron in the UK before you buy, and sort your gear out first, because a 68 mph bike deserves better than trainers and a bicycle helmet.

What is the real-world range?

Sur-Ron quotes up to 71 miles (115 km) at a steady 31 mph. Treat that as the ceiling, not the average. For this Sur-Ron Ultra Bee HP X review we rode it hard in Sport and Turbo and saw roughly half of that. Cold weather, deep mud and low tyre pressures all take a bite.

The 74V 60Ah pack is removable, which matters more than the headline capacity, because you can carry it indoors and charge it in the warm. Our real-world Sur-Ron range guide has our measured numbers for all three bikes.

Does the chassis cope with the power?

Yes, and this is the quiet upgrade nobody talks about. The forged aluminium alloy double cradle frame carries 240 mm of front fork travel and 85 mm of rear shock travel, fully adjustable at both ends. Hydraulic discs front and rear with brake override give a firm lever rather than a vague one, and the 80/100-19 front and 100/90-18 rear tyres take normal off-road rubber.

The trade-off is size. Kerb weight is 88.5 kg, seat height is 910 mm, ground clearance 315 mm and the wheelbase is 1,380 mm. That is a full-size dirt bike. If you are under about 5ft 8in you will be tiptoeing, and picking it up out of a rut is real work. Anyone coming off a Light Bee X should sit on both, and our Light Bee X against Ultra Bee HP X comparison lays out the differences plainly.

What about SWC wheelie control?

SWC is a wheelie assist, not an anti-wheelie. A gyroscope reads the bike's pitch and the controller manages power so the front lifts to a balance point and holds there. It is adjustable and you can switch it off, and Sur-Ron says disable it before you jump. Do not confuse it with SAWC on the Hyper Bee, which does the opposite and keeps the front down. We explain both in our guide to Sur-Ron wheelie control.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Sur-Ron Ultra Bee HP X road legal in the UK?

No. In stock form it is off-road only and not type-approved for UK public roads, so it is private land, tracks and permitted trails only. A separate restricted road-legal Light Bee X LE1 moped exists in the wider Sur-Ron line-up, so get in touch if that is what you are after.

How long does the Ultra Bee HP X take to charge?

About 2.5 hours from 20 to 80% on the 1000W charger through the new smart charging port. A full charge from very low takes longer. The pack is removable, so most owners charge it indoors somewhere dry and warm.

Can a beginner buy an Ultra Bee HP X as a first bike?

You can, but we usually suggest otherwise. The seat is tall, it weighs 88.5 kg and Turbo is unforgiving of a clumsy wrist. A Light Bee X or a Hyper Bee is easier to learn on and holds its value well when you move up.

How heavy is the Ultra Bee HP X compared with a Light Bee X?

Kerb weight is 88.5 kg against 59 kg for the Light Bee X, so it is roughly 30 kg heavier. You notice it loading a van or picking the bike up after a spill, less so riding, because the weight sits low.

Does the Sur-Ron app work on the Ultra Bee HP X?

The Sur-Ron app is not available on UK-region bikes. T-Box telemetry and the onboard dashboard both work normally, and everything you need to adjust, including modes, regen levels and SWC, is set from the bike itself.
