2026 Sur-Ron Light Bee X: Every Change Explained
Short answer: the 2026 Sur-Ron Light Bee X moves up to 10 kW peak power, 295 Nm at the wheel, a 50 mph top speed and a 72V battery, and it adds a two-level wheelie assist called SWC. It is the biggest single-year change this platform has had since it launched.
We run a Sur-Ron dealership, so we get asked about this bike every day. Most people want the same thing: a plain list of what changed, without the marketing gloss. Here it is, change by change, with an honest note where something matters less than it sounds. All prices and specs below are correct at the time of writing.
What actually changed on the 2026 Light Bee X?
Sur-Ron kept the shape and changed almost everything you cannot see. The frame is still forged aluminium alloy double cradle, the wheels are still 19" front and 18" rear, and it still looks like a Light Bee from ten metres away. Underneath, the motor, controller, battery voltage and rider aids are new or reworked.
- Power. 10 kW peak from the PMSM mid-drive motor.
- Torque. 295 Nm measured at the wheel, not at the motor shaft.
- Top speed. 50 mph (80 km/h), with 0 to 31 mph in 2.5 seconds.
- Battery. 72V 35Ah, 2.5 kWh, removable, IP67 sealed and rated to 50G shock.
- Controller. A self-developed MTPA/MTPV FOC unit.
- SWC. Two-level Sur-Ron Wheelie Control, plus off.
- Safety kit. Electronic gyroscope tilt protection and an Emergency Brake Alert taillight strobe.
- Colours. White, Carbon Black, Purple and Green, all painted rather than wrapped.
How much quicker does it feel?
Noticeably, and mostly in the middle of the range rather than at the top. The old bike ran out of shove once you were moving. This one keeps pulling. The 295 Nm figure is the one that changes your riding: steep climbs that used to need a run-up now go from a standstill.
Top speed is 50 mph, which is plenty on any UK trail or track. Sustained speed empties any battery fast, though. If outright pace is the goal, the Ultra Bee HP X is the bigger machine, and we split the two in our Light Bee X against Ultra Bee HP X comparison.

Why the 72V battery matters more than the Ah number
Riders fixate on capacity. Voltage is the quieter upgrade. Running the same power at a higher voltage means lower current, and lower current means less heat in the motor, controller and cables. The bike then holds its performance longer instead of quietly backing off to protect itself.
The pack is 72V 35Ah, 2.5 kWh, and it lifts out so you can charge it indoors. It is IP67 sealed and rated to 50G of shock. Charging from 20 to 80% takes 2.15 hours. Range is quoted at up to 46 miles (75 km) at a steady 40 km/h, and real riding will be well under that. More on voltages across the range in our guide to 72V and 74V Sur-Ron batteries.
SWC: a wheelie assist, not an anti-wheelie
This is the change people get wrong most often, so read it twice. SWC on the 2026 bike helps the front wheel come up. A gyroscope reads the pitch angle and the controller feeds power in so the front lifts smoothly to a balance point, then you hold it on the throttle. Two levels, plus off.
It is the opposite of SAWC on the Hyper Bee, an anti-wheelie that keeps the front down for younger and newer riders. Same brand, three letters apart, opposite jobs. Sur-Ron also advise switching SWC off for jumps, where the front should come up on your timing rather than the system's. Full detail is in our explainer on Sur-Ron Wheelie Control.
What carried over unchanged
Plenty, and that is a good thing. The chassis is proven and the parts supply is everywhere.
- Suspension. Fully adjustable inverted forks with 200 mm travel, Intersect TR rear with 85 mm of shock travel.
- Geometry. Seat height 830 mm, ground clearance 270 mm, wheelbase 1,255 mm.
- Weight. 59 kg kerb weight, 100 kg carrying capacity. Still light enough to lift out of a ditch alone.
- Drive. Primary belt to secondary chain, so normal chain care still applies.
- Road legality. Off-road only, not type-approved for UK public roads. That has not changed and we will not pretend otherwise.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the 2026 Light Bee X worth upgrading to from a 2025?
If you ride hard and often, yes: the power, the 72V pack and SWC are real changes, not sticker updates. If you ride gently a few times a month, your current bike is fine. We weigh it up in our 2025 against 2026 upgrade guide.
Is the 2026 Sur-Ron Light Bee X road legal in the UK?
No. In stock form it is off-road only and not type-approved for UK public roads, so it is for private land with permission, MX tracks, motorsport venues and trail centres. There is a separate restricted LE1 moped version, and if that is what you are after, get in touch and we will talk you through it.
How long does the battery take to charge?
From 20 to 80% takes about 2.15 hours on the supplied charger. A full charge takes longer because the last stretch tapers on purpose to protect the cells. That is normal, so let it finish.
Can I turn the wheelie assist off?
Yes. SWC has two assist levels plus a full off setting, and Sur-Ron recommend turning it off for jumps. Ride with it or without it as you prefer.
Which Sur-Ron should I buy if this is my first one?
The Light Bee X suits most adult first-time buyers: quick without being intimidating, and parts are easy to get. Smaller or younger riders do better on the Hyper Bee. Our three-way model comparison sets them side by side.
