2025 vs 2026 Sur-Ron Light Bee X: Is the Upgrade Worth It?
Short answer: the 2025 vs 2026 Light Bee X gap is bigger than most model year updates, so if you ride hard and ride often, the 2026 bike is worth the swap. If your 2025 bike is healthy and you mostly potter round a field at the weekend, keep it and spend the money on tyres and gear instead.
We run a Sur-Ron dealership in the UK, and this is the question existing owners ask us most. Nobody wants to spend three grand on a sticker set. So here is the honest version: what changed, what you feel on the trail, and where the 2025 bike is still fine.
What actually changed on the 2026 Light Bee X?
This is not a colour year. Sur-Ron went after the powertrain and the electronics, and left the rest alone.
- More power. A 10 kW peak PMSM mid-drive with 295 Nm at the wheel, good for 50 mph (80 km/h) and 0 to 31 mph in 2.5 seconds.
- The battery. A 72V 35Ah, 2.5 kWh pack, removable, IP67 sealed and 50G shock rated, with a 20 to 80% charge in 2.15 hours.
- A new brain. An MTPA/MTPV FOC controller runs the motor, so throttle pickup is smoother.
- SWC wheelie assist. Two levels plus off. A gyroscope reads pitch and the controller feeds power so the front lifts to a balance point.
- Safety extras. Gyroscope tilt protection and an Emergency Brake Alert that strobes the taillight under hard braking.
- Colours. White, Carbon Black, Purple and Green.
What carries over: the forged aluminium alloy double cradle frame, the 19 inch front and 18 inch rear wheels, the 200 mm inverted forks and the Intersect TR rear end with 85 mm of shock travel. Kerb weight is still 59 kg, seat height 830 mm. If you know a 2025 bike, you know this one. The full list is in our guide to every change on the 2026 Light Bee X, and there is more background in our honest Light Bee X review.

Does the 2026 bike feel different to ride?
Yes, and not in the way spec sheets promise. The extra top end is obvious, but the first thing you notice is a calmer throttle. On loose ground the controller meters power out in a way that makes the back wheel easier to read.
Heat is what limits a Sur-Ron on a long, hot lap, not the battery gauge. The 2026 pack is a 72V 35Ah, 2.5 kWh unit, removable and IP67 sealed, and 20 to 80% goes back in 2.15 hours. There is more in our explainer on the 2026 72V and 74V battery packs.
Is SWC on its own a reason to upgrade?
For some riders, honestly, yes. SWC is a wheelie assist, not an anti-wheelie. It helps you lift the front and hold it, which is the skill most new riders give up on. Two levels plus off, and Sur-Ron says to switch it off for jumps.
If you can already loft your 2025 bike, SWC is a fun toy rather than a reason to trade. If you have never got the front up and want to, it changes your season. Our breakdown of how Sur-Ron Wheelie Control works covers it, and do not confuse it with SAWC on the Hyper Bee, which does the opposite job.
What does the 2026 Light Bee X cost in the UK?
At the time of writing it starts from £3,199. UK warehouse: Green £3,299, Purple £3,449, Carbon Black £3,449, White £3,499, arriving in 2 to 3 working days built and PDI checked when UK stock is available. China warehouse orders run £3,299 to £3,499 on a 40 to 60 day lead time.

Is the 2025 Light Bee X still a good bike?
It is, and we will not pretend otherwise. Same chassis, same suspension, same easy 59 kg feel that made this the UK bestseller. Parts are easy to get and a well-kept 2025 bike does everything a weekend rider asks of it.
If money is tight, spend a fraction of the upgrade cost on what actually slows you down. Fresh rubber, a proper suspension setup and decent brake pads change a Light Bee more than people believe. Our list of Sur-Ron upgrades worth your money is where we would start.
2025 vs 2026 Light Bee X: who should upgrade?
- Upgrade. You ride weekly, you push hard on tracks or long trail days, and you want the extra speed, the cooler running pack or SWC.
- Think about it. Your 2025 bike is due a battery or a big service anyway and the trade-in maths lands close.
- Stay put. Your bike is healthy, you ride occasionally, and you would rather have new tyres and a track day.
One thing has not changed either way: both bikes are off-road only, so private land, MX tracks and trail centres.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the 2025 and 2026 Light Bee X?
The 2026 bike gets 10 kW peak power, 295 Nm at the wheel, a 50 mph top speed, a 72V 35Ah battery, the MTPA/MTPV FOC controller, two-level SWC wheelie assist and the Emergency Brake Alert taillight. Frame, wheels, forks and rear suspension carry over.
Can I fit 2026 parts to my 2025 Light Bee X?
Some chassis and cosmetic parts cross over because the frame is shared, but the 2026 powertrain and electronics are a package deal. You cannot buy your way to 10 kW and SWC, and mixing components can affect your warranty. Message us before you order.
Will my 2025 Light Bee X charger and battery still work?
They work on your 2025 bike as normal. The 2026 machine runs a 72V 35Ah pack, and packs and chargers are not cross-compatible between model years, so check with us before you swap anything. Keep the old charger with the old bike if you sell it on.
Is the 2026 Light Bee X road legal in the UK?
No. Like the 2025 bike it is off-road only and not type-approved for UK public roads, so private land, MX tracks, motorsport venues and trail centres. A separate restricted road-legal Light Bee X LE1 exists as an L1e moped, so get in touch if that is what you need.
Should I buy the last 2025 Light Bee X instead?
If the saving matters more to you than the extra power and SWC, it is a sensible buy on the same trusted chassis. At the time of writing we have one 2025 Green UK bike left at £3,199.
