SAWC Explained: Sur-Ron's Anti-Wheelie for Younger Riders
Short answer: SAWC anti-wheelie is Sur-Ron Anti-Wheelie Control, and on the 2026 Hyper Bee it does one job: it keeps the front wheel down. A gyroscope reads how far the front end is lifting, the controller trims power, and the bike settles back onto both wheels. Three levels plus off.
We run a Sur-Ron dealership, and the question we hear most from parents is some version of "will it flip him over backwards". SAWC is Sur-Ron's answer, and it is one of the biggest reasons the MY26 Hyper Bee suits a nervous first-timer better than anything else in the range.
How does SAWC anti-wheelie work?
Electric bikes make full torque from a standstill. No clutch to slip, no revs to build. Grab a handful of throttle on a 39 kg bike making 185 Nm at the wheel and the front end comes up whether you asked for it or not. SAWC sits between the rider's wrist and the motor.
- The gyroscope reads pitch. It measures the angle of the bike many times a second, so it knows the front is rising before the rider does.
- The controller trims torque. Power eases back smoothly until the wheel comes down. It is not a brake and there is no lurch. The bike just loses interest in lifting.
- The rider does nothing. No button, no lever, no lesson needed. It works quietly every time the throttle gets grabbed.
SAWC and SWC are not the same thing
The letters are nearly identical and the systems do opposite jobs.
- SAWC is anti-wheelie. Hyper Bee only. It holds the front wheel down, aimed squarely at younger and less experienced riders.
- SWC is wheelie assist. Light Bee X and Ultra Bee HP X. It helps a confident rider lift the front to the balance point and hold it there, as our guide to how Sur-Ron wheelie control works on the bigger bikes explains.
So if you read "wheelie control" on a spec sheet, check which bike it belongs to. On the Hyper Bee it calms things down.

What do the three SAWC levels do?
The levels are W1, W2 and W3, plus an off setting. They are three strengths of the same safety net rather than three different features, and the number climbs with the strength.
- W1 is the lightest. It only steps in on a big lift, so the front still skips over bumps naturally.
- W2 is the middle setting. A sensible place to sit once your rider has stopped grabbing the throttle.
- W3 is the strongest. It holds the front down firmly however hard the throttle gets pinned.
On day one, start at W3 and let your rider learn the throttle with the net fully on. Step down to W2, then W1, as they earn it.
Why does this matter for a new rider?
An unintended wheelie is not usually the crash. The crash is what the rider does next: chopping the throttle, the front slamming down, the bars going sideways. A younger rider has less weight to hold the bike down and less instinct for that half second. SAWC removes the sequence before it starts.
A kid who has not been fired off the back is a kid who keeps riding. Our parents' guide to a first day on a Sur-Ron has the running order we use, and our roundup of the best electric dirt bikes for kids and teenagers covers the wider choice.
SAWC is one layer, not the whole safety story
Sur-Ron built the MY26 Hyper Bee as a stack of overlapping systems. The rest matter just as much on a first bike.
- Parental remote. Works up to 300 m away. Adjust regen, throttle sensitivity and SAWC from where you stand, with a one-touch emergency power-off and an intercom to talk to your rider.
- Wrist-strap kill switch. A magnetic lanyard that cuts the motor the moment the rider parts company with the bike.
- Gyroscope tilt protection. Past a set angle the motor cuts automatically, so a dropped bike does not keep driving.
- Throttle curves and ride modes. Three throttle maps (F1, F2, F3), three riding modes and six levels of regen from E0 to E5. You can make the bike gentle before your rider touches it.
- Physical protection. Full upper and lower chain guards and body protection pads at the impact points.

Does SAWC ruin the fun?
Honestly, turned up it does limit what the bike will do. That is the entire point, and a feature for the person paying.
None of it is permanent. SAWC switches off from the dashboard or the remote once your rider has earned it. Underneath the safety kit the MY26 Hyper Bee still makes 8 kW, runs to 40 mph and gets to 31 mph in 2.59 seconds. Like every Sur-Ron we sell it is off-road only and is not type-approved for UK public roads, so pick your ground carefully. Our guide to where you can legally ride a Sur-Ron in the UK is worth a read first.
Which Sur-Ron has SAWC anti-wheelie?
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you turn SAWC off?
Yes. Three levels, W1, W2 and W3, plus a fully off setting. Change it from the dashboard or the parental remote, so it is easy to dial up for a beginner session.
What age is the Hyper Bee designed for?
Sur-Ron do not publish an age, so go by fit rather than birthdays. Seat height adjusts from 665 to 705 mm across three positions and the rated load is 55 kg, so a shorter rider sits flat-footed and the bike still fits once they have grown. Message us with your rider's height and we will tell you honestly whether it suits them yet.
Does the Light Bee X have SAWC anti-wheelie?
No. The Light Bee X has SWC, which is a two-level wheelie assist that helps lift the front rather than hold it down. The Ultra Bee HP X has an adjustable version of the same assist.
Can I adjust SAWC while my child is riding?
Yes. The parental remote works up to 300 m away and changes throttle sensitivity, regen and SAWC on the fly, without stopping the session.
Is the Hyper Bee road legal in the UK?
No. It is off-road only and is not type-approved for UK public roads. It is for private land with the landowner's permission, or an off-road park. Get in touch if you want to talk through road-legal options.
Come and have a look
If you are choosing a first electric dirt bike for a younger rider, SAWC is the feature we would not skip. Browse the full Sur-Ron range, or message us at contact@tractionbikes.co.uk with the rider's height and where they will be riding. We will give you a straight answer, even if that is to wait six months. If you are near us, come and see the bikes in person. The kettle is always on.
