The Light Bee X is the bike that built the Sur-Ron name. Eight years of development, a proper 8 kW PMSM mid-drive, 60 V 40 Ah battery, fully adjustable suspension and brakes that stop on command. It is the most versatile electric off-road bike on sale and the best-selling Sur-Ron worldwide. We have sold more of these than any other model.
Why the Light Bee X is the bike to buy
If you are buying your first serious electric off-roader, the Light Bee X is the bike most people end up with for good reason. It is light enough (57 kg with battery) to pick up if you drop it, fast enough (46 mph) to keep adult riders entertained, and has the range to do a proper trail day. The 19" front and 18" rear wheel sizes use standard motocross tyre sizes, so replacement rubber is everywhere.
It is also one of the easiest electric bikes to live with. The 21700 lithium-ion battery pulls out in 10 seconds for charging indoors, the chassis is a single piece of forged aluminium so there is almost nothing to maintain, and the chain drive means standard motocross sprockets and chains fit. Compared to a Talaria Sting MX4, the Light Bee X is lighter, has a proven aftermarket, and holds its value better on the used market.
Battery and range that actually works
The 2.4 kWh battery (60 V, 40 Ah, 505 cells of 21700 chemistry) is rated to IP67 and survives 50G impacts. In the real world, expect around 75 km on the WMTC cycle, 50 to 60 km on hard trail riding, and 30 to 40 km on full attack. A 20 to 80 percent charge takes 2 hours, so a couple of hours over lunch on a UK trail day gets you back out for the afternoon.
The battery is the most expensive single component on any electric bike and Sur-Ron have been refining this design since 2018. UL-certified, multiple temperature sensors, distributed BMS communication. Ours come with a manufacturer warranty, and Traction Bikes can extend that to two years total with our Gold plan.
Suspension and brakes
198 mm of front travel from the inverted coil fork, 211 mm of rear wheel travel from the Intersect TR multi-link rear, all fully adjustable. The 4-piston bilateral calipers on both ends are more than the bike weighs needs, which is exactly what you want when you are committing into a corner. Out of the box this is one of the few electric off-road bikes that does not need an aftermarket suspension or brake upgrade to be properly capable.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Sur-Ron Light Bee X road legal in the UK?
No. The Light Bee X is the off-road model and is not type-approved for UK public roads. The road-legal variant is the separate Light Bee L1E, which has indicators, mirrors, number plate lighting and Euro IVA approval. The L1E requires a CBT, registration, insurance and tax. The Light Bee X cannot easily be converted to road legal: doing so requires a full IVA process which most people will not pursue.
Light Bee X vs Talaria Sting: which should I buy?
Both are capable bikes. The Light Bee X is lighter (57 kg vs 65 kg), has a longer global aftermarket history, and holds resale value better. The Talaria Sting MX4 has slightly more peak torque and a more aggressive stance. For most UK trail riders, the Light Bee X is the safer bet because Sur-Ron's UK distribution and parts availability is more established. We specialise in Sur-Ron, so if you have specific questions on the Light Bee X versus other brands, message us and we will give you a straight answer.
Can a beginner ride the Light Bee X?
Yes, but with the right approach. The Eco mode tames the bike's response significantly, making it manageable for newer riders. The 828 mm seat height does require enough leg length to flat-foot or near flat-foot. We recommend completing a session in Eco mode before unlocking Sport. If you are completely new to motorcycling, the Hyper Bee is a friendlier place to start.
What is the real-world range, not the WMTC figure?
The 75 km WMTC figure is a steady-state cruise number. In real world UK trail riding, expect 50 to 60 km on enthusiastic mixed terrain, and 30 to 40 km if you are riding hard in technical going. The removable battery means a spare pack effectively doubles your session length, and a 20 to 80 percent charge takes 2 hours.
What finance options are available?
We offer Payitmonthly at checkout. Payitmonthly typically offers 3 interest-free instalments or longer-term financed plans subject to status. Final terms depend on the lender's credit decision. Payitmonthly is available at the standard checkout.
