The Light Bee X is the bike that built the Sur-Ron name. Eight years of development, a proper 8 kW PMSM mid-drive, 60 V 40 Ah battery, fully adjustable suspension and brakes that stop on command. It is the most versatile electric off-road bike on sale and the best-selling Sur-Ron worldwide. We have sold more of these than any other model.
Why the Light Bee X is the bike to buy
If you are buying your first serious electric off-roader, the Light Bee X is the bike most people end up with for good reason. It is light enough (57 kg with battery) to pick up if you drop it, fast enough (46 mph) to keep adult riders entertained, and has the range to do a proper trail day. The 19" front and 18" rear wheel sizes use standard motocross tyre sizes, so replacement rubber is everywhere.
It is also one of the easiest electric bikes to live with. The 21700 lithium-ion battery pulls out in 10 seconds for charging indoors, the chassis is a single piece of forged aluminium so there is almost nothing to maintain, and the chain drive means standard motocross sprockets and chains fit. Compared to a Talaria Sting MX4, the Light Bee X is lighter, has a proven aftermarket, and holds its value better on the used market.
Battery and range that actually works
The 2.4 kWh battery (60 V, 40 Ah, 505 cells of 21700 chemistry) is rated to IP67 and survives 50G impacts. In the real world, expect around 75 km on the WMTC cycle, 50 to 60 km on hard trail riding, and 30 to 40 km on full attack. A 20 to 80 percent charge takes 2 hours, so a couple of hours over lunch on a UK trail day gets you back out for the afternoon.
The battery is the most expensive single component on any electric bike and Sur-Ron have been refining this design since 2018. UL-certified, multiple temperature sensors, distributed BMS communication. Ours come with a manufacturer warranty, and Traction Bikes can extend that to two years total with our Gold plan.
Suspension and brakes
198 mm of front travel from the inverted coil fork, 211 mm of rear wheel travel from the Intersect TR multi-link rear, all fully adjustable. The 4-piston bilateral calipers on both ends are more than the bike weighs needs, which is exactly what you want when you are committing into a corner. Out of the box this is one of the few electric off-road bikes that does not need an aftermarket suspension or brake upgrade to be properly capable.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Sur-Ron Light Bee X road legal in the UK?
No. The Light Bee X is the off-road model and is not type-approved for UK public roads. The road-legal variant is the separate Light Bee L1E, which has indicators, mirrors, number plate lighting and Euro IVA approval. The L1E requires a CBT, registration, insurance and tax. The Light Bee X cannot easily be converted to road legal: doing so requires a full IVA process which most people will not pursue.
Light Bee X vs Talaria Sting: which should I buy?
Both are capable bikes. The Light Bee X is lighter (57 kg vs 65 kg), has a longer global aftermarket history, and holds resale value better. The Talaria Sting MX4 has slightly more peak torque and a more aggressive stance. For most UK trail riders, the Light Bee X is the safer bet because Sur-Ron's UK distribution and parts availability is more established. We specialise in Sur-Ron, so if you have specific questions on the Light Bee X versus other brands, message us and we will give you a straight answer.
Can a beginner ride the Light Bee X?
Yes, but with the right approach. The Eco mode tames the bike's response significantly, making it manageable for newer riders. The 828 mm seat height does require enough leg length to flat-foot or near flat-foot. We recommend completing a session in Eco mode before unlocking Sport. If you are completely new to motorcycling, the Hyper Bee is a friendlier place to start.
What is the real-world range, not the WMTC figure?
The 75 km WMTC figure is a steady-state cruise number. In real world UK trail riding, expect 50 to 60 km on enthusiastic mixed terrain, and 30 to 40 km if you are riding hard in technical going. The removable battery means a spare pack effectively doubles your session length, and a 20 to 80 percent charge takes 2 hours.
What finance options are available?
We offer Payitmonthly finance at checkout. You can spread the cost of your bike over up to 12 months at 0% APR, at no extra cost and subject to status. Choose Payitmonthly as your payment method at checkout and complete a short application. Final approval depends on the lender's credit decision.
How long does delivery take?
For UK warehouse models, delivery usually arrives within around 3 working days. We can typically have the bike collected by our courier the next working day after you order, and delivered the working day after that. Delivery times are estimates and occasional delays can happen. China warehouse bikes usually take around 60 days from order, and may occasionally take a little longer if delays occur.
Can I connect this bike to the Sur-Ron app?
Our bikes cannot be connected to the Sur-Ron app due to technical limitations with product regions. This does not change the functionality of the bike, as the app is not needed for using the bike as usual.
The 2026 Light Bee X is the biggest year-on-year jump Sur-Ron has made on this platform since launch. A 10 kW PMSM mid-drive with MTPA/MTPV FOC control, 295 Nm at the wheel, 80 km/h top speed, a higher-voltage 72 V battery, and a brand new 2-level Sur-Ron Wheelie Control (SWC) that gives less-experienced riders an easy, controlled way to pull and hold a wheelie. Same chassis you trust. More power, more help when you want to show off.
What is new for 2026
If you have ridden a 2025 Light Bee X, the chassis here will feel familiar. Everything that surrounds it has moved on:
- 10 kW peak power, up from 8 kW on the 2025 bike. Same controller architecture, more headroom on the top end.
- 295 Nm at the wheel, up from 266 Nm. Climbing torque and out-of-corner pull both noticeably stronger.
- 80 km/h top speed (50 mph), up from 75 km/h (46 mph). Closes the gap to the Ultra Bee for trail riders who want a faster Light Bee without stepping up a class.
- 72 V architecture replaces the 60 V pack. Higher voltage means lower current for the same power, less heat in the controller and motor under sustained load.
- MTPA/MTPV FOC controller with customisable power delivery, throttle response curves, and kinetic energy recovery levels. Same model, different personalities. Tailor the ride to match yours.
- 2-level Sur-Ron Wheelie Control (SWC), brand new for 2026. Gyroscope-driven wheelie ASSIST: the bike helps you pull and hold a controlled wheelie even if you have never done one before. More on this below.
- Emergency Brake Alert: under hard braking the taillight strobes to give the rider behind you an obvious warning. Small, smart, overdue.
- Electronic gyroscope tilt protection: cuts power if the bike tips past a defined angle, protecting motor and rider in a low-speed off.
- New 2026 colourways: White, Purple, Green and Black. Pink Limited Edition is retained for 2025 only.
Sur-Ron Wheelie Control (SWC), explained properly
SWC is the most interesting electronic addition the Light Bee has received since the platform launched. Important to be clear: SWC is a wheelie ASSIST system, not an anti-wheelie. An onboard gyroscope reads the bike's pitch angle and the controller manages power delivery so the front comes up smoothly, sits at the right angle, and holds there with the throttle instead of fighting your weight transfer.
In normal English: SWC lets a beginner pull a controlled wheelie pretty much on demand. You roll on the throttle, the bike helps the front up to a manageable balance point and keeps it there. You modulate with the throttle to hold the wheelie longer; ease off and the bike gently sets the front back down. It is essentially auto-wheelie for riders who want to learn the technique without binning a £4,000 bike in the process.
SWC is adjustable across 2 levels. Level 1 is a lighter assist, Level 2 is more aggressive lift. You can also turn it off entirely, in which case the bike behaves like a normal Light Bee with no electronic intervention. Sur-Ron's own guidance: do not activate SWC during off-road jumps where you need the front to come up on YOUR timing, not the system's. Toggle it off for tabletops and ramps.
Power, controller and ride modes
The new 10 kW PMSM motor pairs with an MTPA/MTPV FOC controller. MTPA stands for Maximum Torque Per Amp, MTPV for Maximum Torque Per Volt. The short version: the controller intelligently allocates current and voltage to give you the most torque possible at every RPM, smoothly. The roll-on is cleaner than the 2025 controller, the top-end pull holds harder.
Two riding modes are selectable from the dashboard: S mode (Sport, full power, used for trail and track riding) and E mode (Eco, capped power, used for newer riders or commuting at sensible speeds). 5-level regenerative braking is independently adjustable. Auto-hold is included for stop-and-go situations.
Battery and range
The 2026 battery moves to 72 V / 35 Ah. Energy capacity is similar to the outgoing 60 V / 40 Ah pack but the higher voltage architecture is more efficient under load. Real-world range is comparable to the 2025 bike, around 75 km at a steady 40 km/h cruise on the WMTC cycle. Expect 50 to 60 km on mixed UK trail riding and 30 to 40 km on full attack.
Charging from 20 to 80 percent takes 2.15 hours. Plug it in over lunch on a trail day and you are back out for the afternoon. The battery itself is removable for indoor charging in seconds.
Suspension and brakes
200 mm of front travel from an inverted coil fork (up 2 mm from 2025), 85 mm of rear shock travel into a multi-link rear (figures shown are at the shock, not the wheel). Hydraulic disc brakes both ends, full disc design on the drive wheel for additional protection. Out of the crate it is one of the few electric off-roaders that does not need an aftermarket suspension or brake upgrade to be properly capable.
Multi-layered safety, inside and out
The 2026 bike adds a stack of new active safety functions that work in the background:
- SWC wheelie assist (described above)
- Electronic gyroscope tilt protection: cuts power if the bike falls past a tipping angle
- Override protection on the throttle
- Power system high and low temperature protection
- High and low voltage protection
- Overcurrent protection
- Side-stand protection (prevents motor from running with the stand down)
- Emergency Brake Alert taillight strobe
Colourways
The 2026 Light Bee X is offered in four finishes: White, Purple, Green and Black. All are proper paint, not vinyl wrap, and pick up the dirt-textured matte look that wears well in a real off-road environment. Pink (Limited Edition) is carried over on the 2025 model year only.

Frequently asked questions
How is the 2026 Light Bee X different to the 2025?
10 kW peak power (up from 8 kW), 295 Nm torque (up from 266 Nm), 80 km/h top speed (up from 75 km/h), a new 72 V battery architecture, MTPA/MTPV FOC controller, 2-level Sur-Ron Wheelie Control (assist), electronic gyroscope tilt protection, emergency brake-light strobe, new White/Purple/Green/Black colour options. The chassis, wheel sizes and suspension travel are essentially carried over from 2025 with minor revisions.
Should I buy the 2025 or the 2026?
Buy the 2026 if you want the bigger motor, the wheelie-control electronics, and the headroom on top speed. Buy the 2025 if your priority is value and you do not need the extra power. Both bikes share the same chassis, suspension, brakes and aftermarket support. We can talk you through it on WhatsApp if you are unsure.
What is SWC and do I want it?
SWC is Sur-Ron's Wheelie Control. Important: it is a wheelie ASSIST, not an anti-wheelie. The bike helps you pull and hold a controlled wheelie even if you have never done one before. A gyroscope reads the pitch angle and the controller manages power so the front comes up smoothly to a manageable balance point. You hold it with the throttle and ease off to set down. Adjustable across 2 levels and can be turned off entirely if you would rather ride without electronic assistance. Note: if you are confused, SWC (on Light Bee X and Ultra Bee) is the opposite of SAWC on the Hyper Bee, which keeps the front down for younger riders.
Is the 2026 Light Bee X road legal in the UK?
No. The Light Bee X is the off-road model and is not type-approved for UK public roads. If you want a road-legal Sur-Ron you need the L1e variant, which is a separate model with indicators, mirrors, lights, registration and Euro IVA approval. The Light Bee X cannot easily be converted to road legal.
