The Sur-Ron Hyper Bee is the bike we get asked about most by parents. It is a proper, full-suspension electric dirt bike sized for younger riders, not a watered-down toy. Real KKE suspension, real hydraulic brakes, real PMSM motor, real Sur-Ron build quality. We sell it because we ride them ourselves.

Built for younger riders, not built down to a price

Most kids dirt bikes are either toys or scaled-down petrol bikes that overwhelm a learner. The Hyper Bee sits in a sweet spot: it has the build quality of an adult Sur-Ron with geometry, weight and power output dialled for riders who are still learning. The forged aluminium frame, KKE suspension and dual hydraulic disc brakes are the same level of kit you would find on a serious adult enduro, just sized smaller.

Compared to a Honda CRF110F or Kawasaki KLX110R, the Hyper Bee is lighter, quieter, and far easier to learn on. There is no clutch, no kick start, no stalling. The three-stage throttle map lets parents start a complete beginner on the lowest power setting and unlock the full bike as confidence builds.

Two configurations: 14"/12" and 12"/10"

The Hyper Bee comes in two wheel-size configurations. The 14"/12" version suits riders roughly from age 8 upward, with an adjustable seat from 665 mm to 705 mm. The smaller 12"/10" version drops seat height to 635 mm and reduces overall length, making it our recommendation for younger or shorter riders who want a real dirt bike experience without being on tiptoes. Both share the same 5 kW PMSM motor and 50.4 V battery.

Parental control that actually works

This is the feature that sells the bike. The Hyper Bee ships with a key fob remote that lets a parent or coach set the power mode from up to 300 metres away, kill the bike instantly in an emergency, and even communicate via the built-in intercom. Combined with the magnetic kill cord and gyroscope tilt protection, it is genuinely the safest first dirt bike we have ever sold.

Battery and charging

The Hyper Bee runs a 1.26 kWh removable lithium-ion battery (50.4 V, 25 Ah). It pulls out in around ten seconds via a magnetic interface, so families with two riders can swap a fresh pack between sessions. A 0 to 100 percent charge takes roughly 4.5 hours from a standard UK 13 amp socket. A 20 to 80 percent top-up is about 2 hours.

Range varies massively depending on riding style and rider weight, but expect around 50 km of mixed trail use. Aggressive riding on the highest power setting will drop that significantly. The regenerative braking system has three adjustable levels and helps reclaim energy on descents.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Sur-Ron Hyper Bee road legal in the UK?

No. The Hyper Bee is supplied as an off-road vehicle and is not type-approved for UK public roads. It can only be ridden on private land with the landowner's permission, or on designated off-road tracks and motocross sites. Sur-Ron does sell a road-legal Light Bee L1E variant, but the Hyper Bee is not available in a road-legal version.

What age is the Hyper Bee for?

There is no manufacturer minimum age, but the bike is sized for younger riders roughly from age 8 upward on the 14"/12" configuration. The smaller 12"/10" version with its 635 mm seat height suits younger or shorter riders. We recommend the rider can comfortably touch the ground with the balls of both feet. Maximum rider weight is 60 kg.

How long does the battery last on a full charge?

Around 50 km of mixed off-road riding on a full charge, with cruising speeds around 40 km/h. Hard riding on the highest power mode in technical terrain will reduce that significantly. The battery is removable in around 10 seconds, so a spare pack lets you double your session length.

Can a beginner ride the Hyper Bee safely?

Yes. This is one of the bike's strengths. The three-stage throttle map lets a parent start a complete beginner on the lowest power setting where the bike is gentle and forgiving. The parental remote can lock the power mode and kill the bike instantly from up to 300 metres away. Combined with full hydraulic brakes and proper suspension, it is genuinely a great first dirt bike.

How does it compare to a petrol kids dirt bike like a CRF110F?

The Hyper Bee is lighter (39 kg vs 79 kg), quieter, and has no clutch or stalling to worry about. It is more expensive than a basic CRF110F new, but maintenance is far lower (no oil, no spark plugs, no carb tuning) and you can ride it almost anywhere without disturbing neighbours. The petrol bikes still have an edge on outright top speed for older riders, but for learning and trail use the Hyper Bee is hard to beat.
